We would like to share our wonderful experience working with Jamie Torcicollo of Sixth Borough Speech. We hired Jamie to work with our 7 year old son after testing earlier this year revealed he has dyslexia. He also has speech issues. Finding an in home tutor that could address both speech and dyslexia is nearly impossible but Jamie came to the rescue! Her speech and literacy tutoring services are wonderful and our son immediately took to her warm, kind, and fun personality. Her knowledge of speech and the Orton Gillingham approach is immense and she always finds engaging ways to share her knowledge with our son. He has made tremendous progress on his road to reading and we couldn't have done it without Jamie. Our son looks forward to his sessions with her. In terms of working with her as a parent, she takes the time to let us know exactly what she is working on with our son weekly and has gone above and beyond to communicate with our son's school about what he is working on and help us understand as parents how to best support him as well. We can't recommend her highly enough!

“We were so lucky to have been referred to Jamie when S.G. was two years old and really struggling with his expressive speech despite receiving services from Early Intervention. S.G. hit it off with Jamie right away!! Jamie made speech fun for him, she always found toys and books that he loved to incorporate into the sessions. Thanks to the work that Jamie did with S.G., he went from speaking only single words to multi-word phrases to full sentences within a few months! Throughout the years, Jamie has volunteered to communicate with S.G.’s teachers to ensure that her sessions with him complement what he is working on in the classroom. She has even created personalized short stories for S.G. to help overcome specific difficulties at school. Now that S.G. is five years old and his speech skills have caught up by leaps and bounds, he continues to look forward to his weekly sessions with Jamie! He (and the rest of our family) love Jamie so much!”

Jamie is wonderful. Our son J.C. is in fifth grade now, and his work with Jamie has been a joyful experience for him, and for us! Her consistency and perceptiveness in approach give J.C. a solid groundwork, and help us with weekly speech and language goals we work on with him at home.
